TFWs have the same workplace health and safety standards as Canadians in equivalent positions. Employers must show proof that TFWs will have insurance coverage at a minimum equal to the health coverage provided in the province or territory where the business is situated.
What Happens After LMIA is Approved
Once an LMIA application is processed, employers receive a decision. A positive LMIA allows them to proceed with hiring a foreign national, while a negative LMIA means approval is not granted.�
Positive LMIAs are valid for 6 months from the issue date. After obtaining a positive LMIA, employers should inform the foreign national to apply for their work permit or permanent residence.
